Mosquitoes in a Bottle (like genies only smaller!)

August 21, 2013

I stood in the kitchen making salsa chicken tonight (directions: put chicken thighs in dish, spoon on salsa, bake) watching Ian get the ingredients for his pet project ready. He’s decided to take on the monumental task of keeping me relatively mosquito bite free while we’re camping. If you know me, you know this is next to impossible. Not only will I get bit, the bites will develop lives of their own and become huge welts in a matter of hours. Attractive, right?

Anyway, Ian discovered a video on Youtube a few weeks ago and well….I think this is one of those things you have to see for yourself:

Oddly fascinating isn’t it? It may be the worst instructional video ever made yet you can’t stop watching! Or maybe that’s just us. In any case, Ian is convinced this is the key to my mosquito issues. Obviously nothing will be assembled until we reach the first camp site but I’ll definitely update will how well it’s working (or not) whenever we have internet access. I’m assuming we won’t have any at our camp site but to be honest, I have no idea what to expect because this is my first real camping experience. I’ve always been a firm believer that what separates us from the animals is flushing toilets and king size beds. Granted we are bringing a camping toilet and a queen size blow up mattress, but still. It took some convincing but I’m pretty excited to step outside my comfort zone (which usually includes room service), rough it for a few days and prove that I can get by without a hot shower. Plus I really want to roast marshmallows. Don’t judge me.
