Another Year Older

November 22, 2013

I haven’t blogged at all in November and have no excuse. I guess it was appropriate that my last post was about hibernating because that’s pretty much exactly what I’ve been doing. Need to snap out of it though! I’m setting a goal of at least four posts every week until the end of the year. Good thing I’m chatty!

Today’s my birthday and I’ve spent it thinking about the year that was. A lot of adventures and many, many changes. Some of the highlights:

  • Spent a week in Costa Rica getting lost, getting into a car accident, having my faith in humanity restored, running on the beach at sunrise and sleeping in a jungle retreat.
  • “My” place became “our” place when Ian moved in with our pooch Riley.
  • Paid off a mountain of debt to much fanfare (in my head anyway).
  • Started saving for a rainy day AND retirement (hello TFSAs, RRSPs, GICs and a bunch of other acronyms).
  • Went on my first ever extended road trip to the east coast. Thirteen hour travel days, camping, ice cream, moose, the Cabot Trail and roadside 55’s!
  • Was referred to the BEST sports medicine doctor who seems to have cured every running injury that’s plagued me for the past couple of years in TWO visits. Remember my no running for six months pledge? Yeah forget that. I’m back up to five days a week!
  • Resigned from the company I’ve been with for almost four years. How’s that for a bombshell? This is late breaking news and I’m still going through a whole range of emotions. I’m so excited to start with my new company in December but sad to be leaving some really great people behind.

It’s definitely been a year to remember and one to celebrate. Feeling thankful and blessed to have had so many adventures and to have the ongoing love and support of all my family and friends. Ian’s taking me to one of my favourite restaurants (Playa Cabana Cantina) tonight for dinner and I’ve spent most of the day spoiling myself with little indulgences like pedicures, naps and having something chocolate with every meal.

“What??” you say…did I say every meal? Yes, EVERY meal. Including breakfast. And snacks. Basically anytime I open my mouth something chocolate goes in it. It’s glorious.
