It’s an inspiration kind of day. I am head over heels (HA!) in love with running right now.  Days like this, I think my injuries are meant to remind me how much passion I have for this sport. There’s nothing like knowing you can’t do something to make it crystal clear how much you enjoy it.

If you’ve read this blog for any length of time, you’ve probably read about my sunrise runs. These are the runs I love the most. The ones that allow me to forget everything and feel a connection to this huge city at its most peaceful. I’ve had my best runs first thing in the morning fully alone with my thoughts and just feeling my feet hit the pavement.

Over the years I’ve had so many people ask me why I run and give me various reasons as to why I don’t need to or shouldn’t.  You don’t need to lose weight. You’re in shape. It’s bad for your knees. Blah, blah, blah. They don’t understand it’s not something I do because I objectively “need” to, although it certainly feels like a need at times. It’s simply because running is who I am.

still run

The great (maybe best) thing about running is it’s up to you. Whether you’re putting on running shoes for the first time or coming back from injury or run marathon distances every weekend. It’s all on you. I decide to how far, how long and how intense and I’m going to push myself harder than anyone else could push me. My competition is me and I wouldn’t have it any other way.
