First Quarter Check In

April 16, 2014

Now that we’re a couple of weeks into the second quarter of 2014, I thought I’d do a check in to see how I’m coming along with some goals I made for myself this year.

Goal One: Blog every day in 2014.
Result: Success! Haven’t missed a day so far. It hasn’t always been easy.  I’ll admit to being at a loss for words some days and there are entries that I definitely phoned in, but overall, it’s been a worth while experiment.  Being forced to write even when I don’t have much to say really flexes that creative muscle in the brain. Here’s to another nine months!

Goal Two: Take riding lessons.
Result: Success! Well sort of. I’m signed up but they haven’t started yet. As of May 10th I’ll be learning to ride at the Horse Academy in downtown Toronto. Who would have guessed you could take riding lessons in the middle of the city?!

Goal Three: Conquer my fear of the water.
Result: Haven’t started this one yet. I need to research and sign up for private swimming lessons. Looking to start these in the summer after the riding lessons are done. One thing at a time! (Totally rationalizing right now by the way)

Goal Four: Sign up for four running events.
Result: Success! Just signed up for my fourth event today. Now registered for the Toronto Island 10K which includes a post-run bbq for runners and their families. Ian and I are going to run it together and take the kids to the bbq afterwards. Should be a fun day in the (hopefully) sun in early September. That, along with the Toronto Women’s Half and the Toronto Waterfront Half are what I still need to knock off this year.

Goal Five: Sign up for a Tough Mudder or some other obstacle course.
Result: Not sure if this one is going to happen. With two half marathons on the agenda this year, I’m a little worried about doing something stupid and getting injured. Still debating it, but this may be something for next year instead.

Goal Six: Tour PEI by bike.
Result: Looks like this is going to be a 2015 adventure. It just doesn’t make sense financially this year so maybe next Spring instead. If booking some of it this year counts, then that may happen in the last quarter.

That’s it! Feeling good about my progress so far. How about you? What goals did you set for yourself this year? Are you on track to meet them?
