Back to HIIT

Holy crap. I often talk about kicking your own ass during your workouts. Well today I lived that advice.
Remember on Friday I mentioned creating a new work-out? Well I couldn’t decide between HIIT or traditional, so I made a plan for both and am going to try alternating weeks to see what happens. This may be the greatest idea ever or I may cripple myself.

I started with the HIIT workout plan this week. Today’s workout was circuit style with a butt-load (HA!) of squats and lunges book-ended with a minute of rowing. At the end of it, I walked home then ran sprints up and down my blocks a few times. It was definitely challenging after a couple of months of steady state cardio and more traditional weights and body splits. Really felt it after sitting through a 90 minute meeting this afternoon. I haven’t stiffened up this quickly in a LONG time. If it wasn’t for my standing desk keeping me upright and mobile the rest of the day, I might have been crawling home.

Wednesday will be another circuit style workout with kettlebells, again book-ended with rowing and finishing with sprints. I’ll run Tuesday, Thursday and Saturdays (steady state cardio) and do core on Sunday. Typing it out like this, it seems like a lot, so we’ll see how it goes. Hopefully I survive the week!
